Motor trad* experts ia Auckland estimated today that the number of cars imported on no-remittance Jcences might increase by one-third—or roughly 1000 vehicles—after the Government’s extension of the scheme. ' Spokesmen for large motor firms welcomed the extent sion as "an excellent move.” The no-remittance scheme covers overseas shares held by New Zealand residents—which formerly'Ttad to be held since .November 18, 1953, or earlier to'-quajify tot use in purchasing cars: '
The extension of this date to December 31. 1958, will release thousands of pounds for this purport.
"It is a very good way of bringing in more cars without costing us overseas funds.” one importer said. Total imports in the 185960 years were 34,000 vehicles. It is estimated that about 3000 of these were bought on no-remittance licences.
