“CAPPING MAG”
Students Take £6250
All copies of the University of Canterbury "Capping Mag” had left the sales headquarters in the Y.M.C.A. by 9.10 a.m. yesterday, and were all sold by 2 pm. Selling started in Christchurch at 5.30 a.m. when a group of students left the headquarters to meet the inter-island steamer. Others were on the streets soon afterwards. However, 20,000 were sold in other centres from Nelson to Timaru on Thursday. Students from Cantertniry Agricultural College, Lincoln, had sold their quota of 4500 by 11 a.m. They could not get any more. This year 50,000 copies were printed, 5000 more than last year, and still the demand was not satisfied. “Next year we could sell 60,000 if the weather is fine,” said Mr G. Mansell, the sales chairman.
Many of the normal factory trips had to be cancelled this year because there were not enough copies. Two extra trips were made to one freezing works, and every copy was sold. About 30 volunteers were kept very busy for most of the day counting the money as it came in to the headquarters. The students took £6250. After the expenses have been deducted, this money, with the revue takings, will go to the building fund for the Students' union at Ilam.
Proceeds from the capping ; procession collection next • Wednesday will go to the Cholmondeley Memorial Children’s home.
