British Girls Criticised
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, April 27. The Bishop of Majorca warned Spaniards yesterday to beware of English girls—they have easy morals, he said. The Bishop addressed part of the warning to the 20.000 men and youths working in hotels and restaurants on Majorca, which last year had 93,000 British visitors. He said: "We must show the tourists that we are against indecent acts. We must not contribute to them.” The choirmaster of Palma Cathedral, Father Bernardo Julia, commented: “British girls are not very good girls. They come to Majorca to find a compensation for love. “Many sleep in the daytime and get up at night—they never see the sunshine, just the bars and dance halls. They get drunk, dance in a crazy sensuous way, and dress without a thought for the modesty of the Spanish people.”
An official of the Association of British Travel Agents commented: "I have heard nothing from our members to support these allegations.”
