Cup Race At Hastings “The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON. April 28. In the absence of llumquh. Picaroon, last year's winner, is expected to repeat his success and gain his eighth gold cup trophy in the welght-for-age Ormond Gold Cup, the feature event on the last day of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's autumn meeting at Hastings tomorrow. At his last start Picaroon was runner-up to llumquh in the Awapuni Gold Cup a fortnight ago, beating Hl-Jinx and Fair Fllou. The latter, too, should again provide him with the strongest opposition. Two Interesting newcomers will be the three-year-old fillies. Dashing Star, from Te Aroha, and the locally-trained Moy. Both have been racing well, but might find it difficult to beat the older brigade. Picaroon, Fair Filou. Hi-Jinx and Dashing Star have all worked well during the week and are at their peak for tomorrow’s contest. The T.A.B. double is on the Te Mahanga and Okawa Handleaps. Favouritism in the first leg is likely to be disputed by Arid and Sheonat. Pertlad is expected to make his record three wins in succession in the second leg. There was rain today but the track should be in good order again.
