TROTTING SCHNAPPS IN LINE FOR WIN

; Main Sprint Race At ' Tl- L- Tb 1 rorbnry Park i Schnapps, which has won twice in Ida last three starts, should go t close to winning again in the Flying Handicap, the main sprint race on - the opening night ®f the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s winter meeting i today. ; The Flying Handicap has not drawn a particularly strong field, few i of the candidates for the event having shown much in the way of worth- } while form in their last four starts.

Schnapps paced a useful race for eighth in the J. McCloy Memorial Handicap at Methven on April 15 at his most recent start. He was handicapped on 24 yards and was badly pocketed until late in the race. He made up ground over the last furlong and did well to finish close up. Schnaops has improved considerably in recent months and looks capable of winning a number of races in quick time. Queen’s Glow has not won a race this season, but should be capable of adding interest to the finish of this race She was a good sixth, after starting from 24 yards, over 13 furlongs at Addington on April 1 at her last start. She has shown sound form at Forbury Park in the past and could easily win. She will be bracketed with Zany, which will be in demand if she makes the bold showing expected of her earlier in the night in the Winter Handican.

Bespoke is a capable sorinter and at his last start finished a fair fifth in the race won by Gay Baron at Addington on Aoril 1. Bespoke anneals more as a stayer than a snrinter. but if the pace is solid all the way tonight, he should be close to the monev. H- will be bracketed with Corrie Glen, which looks better nlaced on the front than she has for some time. Raven Dew has been out of form for some time, but showed speed to finish tenth over two miles at Methven after receiving a poor run That race, his first for some time, should have improved him.

FROM MATAURA Erin’s Castle has won at one of his two starts this season and the Matauratrained gelding will only have to reproduce his best to have more than an outside chance in this field.

Bonnie Lustre, Lavengro. Super Attack, and Fvvie Queen are others entitled to consideration.

The Addington trainer, R Young/ should go close to winning the Mayfield Handicap and the Dunedin Handicap. the two races on the nrogramme for trotters, with John Black and Our Jimmy, two last-start winners. John Black appears to have improved considerably and there was merit in his win over two miles at Methven as he made all the pace John Black will appreciate the shorter distance in tonight’s race and looks one of the best prospects at the meeting.

Flying Paddy, a consistent nlace-getter in Southland. Spotless. Gunner, Catapult, and Fallacious should be the be«t of the remainder.

Our Jimmy was a stylish winner at Addington on April 1. He is unlikely to work to the front so easily in this field in which he will start from 24 yards, but. if he trots as boldly, he should win.

Dark Lorene and Tarseal have been trotting fine races lately from awkward marks. Both have raced well at Forbury Park in the past

and they must be regarded as sound place prospects. Ahumai, Attract, Kaboon, Superway. and Mighty Ruston are also expected to race prominently. The double will be run on the Winter and Renown Handicaps. Zenith and Cardigan Bay forming a likely combination.

Fair weather is forecast and unless there is unexpected heavy rain, the track should be fast. Acceptances:—
