CAMEROONS’ PLEBISCITE
“Secret Free Bailor (NX. Press Assn.—Copyright) NEW YORK. April 27. The United Nations' plebiscite commissioner (Dr. Djaiol Abdoh) reaffirmed his belief yesterday that a recent plebiscite supervised by him in the British Cameroons was conducted legally and that balloting took place “freely and secretly.” “I don't think that the shortcomings of the operation were of such a nature as to invalidate the results," Dr. Abdoh said in a written reply to a question asked in the General Assembly's trusteeship committee by a New Zealander. "That may be a matter of judgment, but that is my judgment,” the plebiscite commissioner added. The General Assembly last week endorsed the results of the balloting, in which the Northern Cameroons voted for unicm with Nigeria, while the southern sector voted to join the Cameroon republic.
