AUTONOMY WANTED
Historic Places Trust (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. April 28. It was time for a reappraisal of the constitution of the Historic Places Trust, the chairman of the Auckland regional branch of the trust Mr H. Duder said in his annual report. “I cannot get away from the impression that the trust is little more han a subcommittee of the Internal Affairs Department.” he said. “This arrangement was no doubt necessary in the first formative years, but I consider we must soon outgrow this and turn towards more direct public support. “My hope is that provision will be made for representatives from some of the business associations, chambers of commerce. or similar bodies to be appointed to the trust. “I think the trust is overweighted on the academic side and does not as yet bring the public enough into its work.”
