BOXING HELD UNWISE
Risk Of Brain Damage Boxing is unwise for the vast majority of young men. according to Professor Hedley Atkins, a London surgeon with a special interest in sporting injuries. “I can’t believe it is really good for the brain to be subject to the continual jolts and contusions which are inseparable from boxing.” Professor Atkins said in Christchurch yesterday. “It is certainly a wonderful way of keeping fit. but in spite of that advantage I really believe it is unwise.” Professor Atkins added that he had boxed, though rather inefficiently, as a young man. “I never really liked it. but I did it for the honour of the house and the school and all that kind of thing.” he said
