MAHARAJAH’S DEATH
Former Ruler Of Kashmir (N.ZJP.A •H9uier—-Cor)i/riohtl BOMBAY. April 26. Maharajah Hari Singh, former ruler of Kashmir, and a man so rich that one of his squadron of aircraft was finished in pure silver, died today in Bombay. He was 65. The Maharajah had been living in Bombay since he left Kashmir in 1948 after abdicating in favour of his son, Yuvaraj Karan Singh, the present bead of State. Although he handed over his powers, the Maharajah kept his title. In 1952, his privy purse allowance was’ cut from £112.500 a year to £37,000, but the handsome, grey-haired Maharajah had plenty in reserve. He owned a squadron of planes, masses of jewels so rare that no-one could price them, a string of racehorses, and a fleet of cars.
