Hosts of Cook Islanders were seeking employment with the board grubbing nassella. the secretary-manager of the North Canterbury Nassella Tussock Board (Mr F. J. Foley) reported to the annual meeting yesterday. He had received 53 cablegrams in two days this week, some of which contained up to 20 applicants’ names, and the total number was close to 200. The cablegrams had been referred to the Secretary of Island Territories for investigation.

At present the board was employing only three gangs of men. Labour from Christchurch was still proving unsatisfactory. but 11 Maori boys with their own elder who was acting as cook had come from Motueka tobacco fields. More would arrive soon
