LAUNDRY DEPOT HANDS

Females Receive Increases A complete settlement was reached in conciliation this week between female laundry receiving depot hands in the Canterbury industrial district and employers. The Conciliation Commissioner in Christchurch (Mr S W. Armstrong) said yesterday the settlement would be referred to the Court of Arbitration for incorporation in a new award.

The agreement include* Increase* in wage*. Senior women, for instance, will now receive £9 a week, and a woman in sole charge of a receiving depot will receive 10s in addition to her ordinary weekly wage. Where the woman is in charge of one or more assistants, an additional rate of 15s will be paid. There are several other minor changes in the agreement.
