Golf TRIALS FOR N.Z. TEAMS
Nomination In Advance ? (N Z Prta Association) AUCKLAND, April 27. The New Zealand Golf Council will be asked to nominate at least 12 months ahead the events which it intends to regard as trials for the selection of a national team. The Auckland District Golf Association approved this recommendation this evening after discussing a request made a fortnight ago that its two leading players, R. R. Newdick and W. J. Godfrey, should be allowed to compete in the North Island championship* at Dannevirke on Saturday and Sunday. The request, it was aaid by the president, Mr J. N. Bissett, was made when the New Zealand selectors decided “at this late hour” to regard the championship at Dannevirke as a national trial for the team to tour Australia later in the year. “Our hands were completely tied,” Mr Bissett said. “We had to release the two men.” Newdick and Godfrey were to have played for Auckland in the annual inter-District match at Hamilton this weekend.
