SAVAGE CLUB
Membership Of 290 About 100 members attended the annual meeting of the Christchurch Savage Club recently. The club's membership is . 2&0 members comprising four life members, four hbnorary members, 253 ordinary members and 29 orchestral members. The year closed 'with the club having a credit balance of £54 Ils 4d. In his report, the president, Mr W. A. Luney, spoke of the George Bussell Memorial Trust Board. This has been set up to perpetuate the memory of' the late Mr George Russell, who for many years was the elub accompanist The trustees of the board are Messrs J, L. Hay (chairmen), J. Fogarty and H. P. Smith. The main object of the trust is to grant scholarships to assist persons under 21 either 4o undertake or to further their musical education. Should members of the club desire to submit to the trustees the names of persons as candidates for a scholarship, recommendations will receive consideration. Officers elected were:— President, Mr R. M. Naysmith; vice-president. Mr C. Thomas; secretary, Mt C. A. Johnson: treasurer. Mr H J Gillespie; master of ceremonies. Mr G. ’B. Wilson; programme organiser. Mr O ?. G. ' Hancox; council. Messrs W. A. Luney. W- L Mitchell. C. K. Williams. H. Sarginson, J. S. Johns, E. H. Rogers, C. B. Hall; musical director. Mr M. Brown; accompanists. Messrs U L. Russell, P. Sorensen; Orchestral librarian, Mr C. Ironside.
