Protest About Itinerary The Christchurch branch of the New Zealand-U S S.R. Society has decided to protest at the exclusion of South Island centres during the Leningrad Maly Theatre Ballet visit to this country This was among matters dealt with at the annual meeting The president (Mr C. E. Lewis), in his annual report, referred to Mr Nash's visit to the Soviet Union, and expressed the hope that Mr Holyoake would make another visit to Russia. The formation of a kindred body in Moscow, the U.S.S.R.-New Zealand Society, had attracted the interest of the New Zealand National Council of Churches. Mr C. L Carr, M.P., and the National Orchestra, which had the approval of the Director of Broadcasting to consider any proposal to tour Russia
The retiring secretary (Mr C. F. Saunders) was praised for his work over the last 20 years.
The branch finances were the healthiest they had been for some time, the treasurer. Mr B Rammelt, said when he presented the balancesheet.
After the meeting Miss Natalie Taylor gave a short piano recital.
Officers elected were: president, Mr C E. Lewis; vicepresident, Mr C. F Saunders; secretary, Mr T G. Cross; treasurer. Mr B Rammelt: committee. Misses I. Young and A. Duffield, Mesdames M J Lewis, M. Irvine, anc N. Edwards, Messrs A Wartman, D Upton, R. Young, F Langley, C. Jones, K Duffield, J. Febery, and P J Alley; auditor. Mr D. Guyton.
