KALONJI BECOMES KING OF THE BALUBAS.—Wearing a small leapard-skin under his coat, President Albert Kalonji of South Kasai, in the Congo, and his retinue march through the village of Kuadi during tribal ceremonies which ended with the acclamation of Mr Kalonji as King of the Baluba people. He becomes “Mulopwe,” the all-powerful, a title no Baluba has held for nearly 400 years since the ancient Baluba kingdom fell before the spears of the neighbouring Lulu a tribesmen. He is wearing a head-dress studded with industrial diamonds.
