EMPLOYMENT SHORTAGE
Problem In 25 Years (Special Crspdt N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, April 26. Within 25 years there was going to be considerable difficulty in finding any form of employment for the unskilled, untrained and those of lower intelligence, said Professor C. F. Carter, professor of political economy at Manchester University, in Birmingham. He told the National Association of Youth Employment Officers that there would be some routine jobs and some service jobs; “but there is little doubt that there will be a shortage—a contraction in the amount of unskilled work to be done.” "I would suggest that this is probably one of the reasons why the present total of unemployment in the United States is proving suite intractable because there has been a displacement of labour by automation. "Changes would include rcnlacement of human muscle by mechanical force to a much greater degree, displacement of skill as in breaking down skilled jobs into Several semi-skilled operations, and the displacement of human control even at unskilled work,” said Professor Carter.
