Mr Laurenson’s Tour

The secretary of the North Canterbury Hospital Board (Mr J. G. Laurenson) was yesterday given the good wishes of the board for his coming overseas tour. “Mr Laurenson. accompanied by Mr A. E. Galletly. chief executive officer. Division of Hospitals, Department of Health, will leave on May 6 to travel overseas on a World Health Organisation fellowship.” said the chairman (Dr. L. C. L. Averill). Mr Laurenson had been selected from 11 nominations, he added.

“The purpose of the fellowship is to study hospital administration and planning in the United States, the United Kingdom. Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Australia,” Dr. Averill said.

“From this extensive tour the two fellows should bring back to New Zealand information on the latest methods and practices in hospital administration and planning. Just as important, they will also be able to assess the value of the work at present being done in New Zealand, compared with world standards.”
