Loan Progress.—Subscriptions to the North Canterbury Hospital Board's £150,000 loan stood at just over £71,000 as at 10 a.m. yesterday, the chairman of the finance committee (Professor A. J. Danks) reported. “This is an extraordinarily gratifying response from the community and we should be all extremely grateful,” he said.
Kitchen Alterations The alterations to be made in the Christchurch Hospital kitchen would bring it up to the standard required for the hospital before and during the rebuilding, but a completely new kitchen was being planned for the new hospital, said Mr L. A. Bennett. He was answering a question by Mr V. J. Corbett.
Gifts Received.— A gift of about £5O was received with appreciation by the board from the Christchurch Indian Association in gratitude for the services rendered to the Indian community. A sum of £llO held by the board to the credit of the late Mrs V. Ell. a former resident of the Jubilee home, was accepted by the board for the benefit of the home. Mrs Ell’s daughter had asked for this to be done in appreciation of the care and attention provided by the home.
St. John Link.—-Christ-church Hospital will be linked into the St. John Ambulance Association’s radio control system, it was decided. The meeting was told this would assist in civil defence, the emergency and accident service, and the integration of hospital services Chatham Islands. The board decided to increase to £2OOO a year the grant paid the religious order which staffs the Chatham Islands Hospital. Male Narae Medal— The board reaffirmed its decision to provide a medal for male nurses different frcm that awarded to female nurses. The Society of Male Nurses had asked for the same medal to be used.
Hospital Washing.— More than 11.5 million articles were washed last year by the Christchurch central hospital laundry, says the annual report of the North Canterbury Hospital Board. The total was 11.589,512 against 10.841.154 in 1959-60 and 9.683.867 in 1958-59. The Christchurch hospital contributed 5.663.001 articles. Burwood 2.156,844. Princess Margaret 1.521,634 and St. Helens 1.423.689. The St. Helens work is done by arrangement with the Health Department.
