COMPETITION FOR MEAT
Claim Made By Board (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. April 26 There was strong competition for New Zealand meat from many countries a spokesman for the Meat Board said today. He was commenting on a statement made by Mr M. Nakayama, a director of the Japan Meat Importers’ Association, that Japan was prepared to treble its imports of meat from New Zealand if a suitable price could be arranged The demand for New Zealand meat in Japan had increased considerably after an extensive advertising campaign launched in Japan by the board, the spokesman said. The campaign included television cookery sessions and thousands of pamphlets and leaflets introducing New Zealand mutton. Britain was the largest importer of New Zealand meat, then North America. Japan, and Greece. the spokesman said
