Too Many Locks
Canterbury Rugby has an abundance of good front row props—J. Le Lievre. M. Irwin, M. Allan, C. R. Hockley and B. R. Mann. Any of them would be welcomed in any other provincial side. Wellington on the other hand is short of props, but the representative side will be embarrassed with locks with such talented players as I. N. Mac Ewan, R. H. Horsley, D.
Harker and K. Gray available. Mac Ewan and Horsley toured South Africa with the All Blacks last year and Harker played for The Rest against the All Blacks when they returned to New Zealand. Although it seems a waste of a good lock, it is likely that Mac Ewan will move into the front row for Wellington, with Harker and Horsley locking the scrum. Gray, who like the other three weighs more than last, would probably play on the back of the scrum or on the side. With these four in the pack Wellington will surely have the heaviest provincial scrum in New Zealand.
