Rugby “When are the Canterbury Rugby administrators going to recognise the talent abounding in the University Rugby Club? I noticed in Wednesday’s edition the regrading of seven University players to senior reserve because they were unable to make the club's first team. They are top players who would fly into many of the leading club sides. Otago successfully runs two University teams in its competition. Surely two Canterbury teams would be just as successful and far stronger than some of the mediocre teams playing this year. Should two University sides be entered. competition would be greatly stimulated. Some of the lower teams would have to fight to hold their senior status, something which dees net apply under the present system. The public will willingly pay to see good club Rugby, but hew ean this be fully developed when some of the province’s leading players are excluded from the senior ranks?”—J.P.S.
