TOURING SHOWS
Besides “My Fair Lady,” due to open in Wellington in three or four months, J. C. Williamson Theatres will also present three other musicals in New Zealand, says the firm’s joint managing director, Mr John McCallum. They will be “Bye Bye Birdie” and “Irma La Douce,” which nave already played to packed houses on Broadway and are now playing in Sydney and Melbourne, and the smash hit British musical, “Oliver.” “Bye Bye Birdie” stars Pat Finley and Frank Buxton from Broadway and has been rated by Edward Pedula, producer of the Broadway version of the show, as a much better production. Actual dates for the New Zealand tours of all three shows are not yet certain, but they will tour New Zealand within the next 12 months. In addition to the musicals “The Firm” will also present other outstanding attractions in New Zealand in the next 12 months. “The Amorous Pawn.” a comedy starring British stage stars Eileen Peel and Michael Shepley opens in Australia on April 1 and will tour New Zealand this year. Two other plavs. “The Constant Wife” which stars Googie Withers and Clement McCallin, and “Winter Journey” are also likely to tour New Zealand. “The Miracle Worker.” which has had an outstanding season on Broadway is scheduled to open in Australia this year and also may come to New Zealand.
