Traffic Control At Fendalton
Sir, —At present an enormous amount of traffic, consisting of lorries, cars, motorcycles, scooters, power-cycles, and bicycles is being diverted from Puriri street into Weka street. University students and school children by the dozens ride three and four abreast, dodging the speeding cars and motorcycles which have recently been checked at a speed of 47 miles an hour. Another serious complaint is the noisy motor exhausts which are heard through the day and far into the night. The traffic department is taking a serious view of this annoyance, and for the offence heavy fines have been imposed. It is now high time the Waimairi council took immediate action to bring the offenders to court before serious accidents occur.— Yours, etc., RESIDENT. April 16, 1961. [The Waimairi County chairman (Cr. J. I. Colligan) replies: ’’Traffic control within the Waimairi County is administered by the Transport Department. The council has bn -numerous occasions asked that the particular roads /mentioned by the correspondent be kept under ’ observation, and, from the ! reports to hand, the condi--1 tions are not as stated by the correspondent. The council • will refer this letter to > the Transport Department’s i officers employed In the s county with a view to the • Traffic Regulations being i rigidly enforced.”]
