Road Safety

Sir.—We are constantly reading about “slow drivers" from various sources and bodies in Christchurch who seem to think that they may j make their own rules. I am | a slow driver and proud to i say so, and if there were ! more like me there would be i few accidents. A lot of my driving is in Papanui, North road, and Riecarton road, not forgetting the Hospital to Deans avenue. These are all 30-miles an hour areas. 1 stick to 30 miles and when cars shoot past me at 40. 50 and 60 I do not pull over to the left for them. On the unrestricted roads I always ■ drive well to the left, especially for buses and trucks. Could we have a white line in the centre, of Riecarton , avenue, between the Hosnitai and Deans avenue? This is where the inspectors could ' have a catch.—Yours, etc., E.W.B. April 23, 1961.
