HOSPITAL BOARD LOAN
Good Response So Far The North Canterbury Hospital Board’s £150.000 development loan was 44 per cent subscribed at anon on "Weare very pleased with the response.” the secretary of the board (Mr J. G. Laureason) said yesterday. “We are particularly gratified at the Unusually high proportion of the subscriptions so far- which have gone to the long-term part of the IO CH the £86.790 so Car subscribed. he said. £21,750 bad been put to the 10-year sectton. On most previous occasions. the short-term capital had been forthcoming fairly readily, but the longerterm sections had been harder to fill. The response was spread fairly widely, and not by any means restricted to the city, Mr Laurenson added. The loan is at 4| percent, for three to five years, or 4$ per cent, for six to 10 years. DRESS FACTORY GUTTED The dress factory of Nancy Lee Frocks in Buchan street, Sydenham, was gutted by a fire which broke out at L 37 ajn. on Monday. Several rolls of material were saved, but these were damaged by water. Twelve sewing machines were destroyed. The cause of the fire is unknown, and detectives are investigating. Units from the Central and Sydenham Fire Stations attended the fire and remained there foe about two hours. The walls of the factory are still standing, and two outbuildings owned by the firm were not touched by the fire. About 18 months ago the firm's factory in Somerfield was burnt out, and the business was moved to its present site in Buchan street.
