Mountfort, chairman of the Ashburton Ministers’ Association, who gave the sermon., "It is the day on which we commemorate the men and women who laid down their lives in war so that we might live in peace.” Wreaths were laid by the secretary of the Ashburton Returned Services’ Association (Mr K. R. Thompson), the Mayor of Ashburton (Mr J. Davidson) and the chairman' of the Ashburton County Council (Mr X S. Murdoch), A salute ot three rounds was fired by a firing party <rf W from the Ashburton High School and Last Poet and Reveille were played by Bandsman R. E. Argyle of the Salvation Army Band. Led by the drum and bugle band of the Christchurch Air Training Corps, Scouts, Guides- and Girls' Brigade. 201 servicemen and women marched from their headquarters in West street to the Cenotaph.
