LABOUR PARTY EXECUTIVE
Membership May Be Widened (New Zealand. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 6. A Maori member should be added to the Labour Party’s national executive, said an executive recommendation approved by the annual conference of the party today. The appointment of such a member, the executive proposed, would not prejudice the Maoris’ Tights to stand for election to any executive position in the party. The party's Maori policy committee will be responsible for the appointment. The conference adopted the recommendation after hearing a report from the Maori advisory council by Mr E. T. Tirikatene, M_P. Other prominent Maori delegates also spoke. Another recommendation, to elect a woman member to the executive, was also approved. As in the case of the Maori member, such an appointment would not nullify the rights of women already have to stand for election tu any office in the party. Women may be nominated by any branch or affiliation of the party, and will be elected by delegates attending the national conference.
