Children In U.S. “Very Sophisticated”

An extensive and interesting programme had been arranged for the year, the president (Miss Jeanne Edgar) reported at a committee meeting of the women’s group of the Risingholme Community Centre. Mrs F. W. Gunz gave a talk on her experiences of life in the United States during the year she spent there. The children were very sophisticated, said Mrs Gunz, and were frequently married by the time they reached 15 years. Parents of standard six children were often approached by teachers of social graces with a view to enrolling their 11 or 12-year-old children in classes for training in deportment, etiquette, and polite con-

versation. Above all, Mrs Gunz said that she found friendliness, sincerity and generosity wherever she travelled.
