New Federation’s Executive Meets
The first executive committee meeting of the newly formed Canterbury East Federation of Country Women’s Institutes was held in the rooms, 100 Cashel street. Mrs Prebble presided. The following officers were elected:— Secretary, Miss I. Lewton; vicepresidents, Mesdames Gardener and W. Johnson; minutes secretary, Mrs H. O. Gardener; treasurer, Mrs E. B. Thompson. Mrs Champion’s offer of a banner was accepted with thanks. Mrs Prebble and Mrs Button were appointed to the rooms’ committee. Several members of the Canterbury Federation of Country Women’s Institutes who have completed their four-year term of office as executive members were recently entertained at lunch by the two new executive committees. Those honoured were Mesdames W. A. Pattison (president), H. G. Holmes (secretary), R. McMeekan (treasurer), J. McGregor Smith, and Miss I. Lewton.
The two new presidents, Mesdames C. D. Newton and H. Prebble, expressed appreciation of all that had been accomplished by the guests of honour during their term of office, and presented them with floral sprays and gift tokens.
Mrs M. Davis, a member of the Dominion executive, and several voluntary organisers also attended the gathering.
