N.Z. FASHION PARADE
National Tour In July
New Zealand’s answer to Italy, Australia and other overseas competitors in the fashion field will find expression in July when the first national showing of New Zea-land-made apparel and accessories will be presented in the main cities.
Practically all the leading names in the New Zealand apparel field will be represented, and everything that the models wear will be made in this country.
An opening in Wellington on July 1 will introduce the show to the country, and it will then tour most of the main cities in the North Island before opening its South Island season at Christchurch on July 22. Mrs Paddy Walker, of Auckland, has been appointed fashion co-ordinator, and she will produce and compere the show. Six New Zealand models have been engaged to display the wide variety of spring and summer apparel to be featured. The accent will be on clothes that are suitable for New Zealand conditions and occasions. Manufacturers are now completing their designs and choosing from world sources the most suitable fabrics.
The show is sponsored by the New Zealand Textile and Garment Manufacturers’ Federation. Most of the cities in New Zealand are included in the itinerary and the tour will occupy the whole of July. Parades will be presented in a cabaret atmosphere where possible.
