CAR RECORDS BROKEN

Speed Attempts At

Tram Road

Two New Zealand motor speed records were broken at Tram road on Saturday. Five records were to be attempted but because of almost continuous rain only- two were attacked. The class G record was broken by I. E. O. McKellar driving a Cooper Climax. In two runs he recorded 21.325ec and 19.435ec, an average of 109.8 miles an hour. R. Campbell claimed the Class I record with a Cooper 500 mark eight. His times were 22.095ec and 20.765ec, an average of 104.4 miles an hour.

The records challenged were:— Class G, 99.03 miles an hour set by D. S. Drury (Singer Special) 1954-55; Class I, 87.16 miles an hour set by a Shadbolt Special car in 1955.

The records are subject to official approval. Club runs at the Tram road were poor because of the wet conditions.
