RAFFLE FOR SCOUT TROOP

Unwitting Breach Of Code (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL. May 5. A city scout troop has unwittingly broken the scouting code, but it is making amends. When the parents’ committee of the Jellicoe Sea Scout troop set about raising funds it was decided to run a raffle. This was organised and advertised. Then someone remembered that raffles are contrary to scouting ethics. It was then decided to withdraw the raffle, but this could not be done without police permission. This halving been granted, the committee is now offering to return all money invested in its raffle or to accept any of it as donations.
