SOUTH AFRICAN WOMEN’S TITLE
Australian Wins
(N.Z. Press Association_~Copyrlght) JOHANNESBURG, May 4. Miss Margaret Masters, a 23-year-old Australian, became South African woman golf champion yesterday, when she beat Mrs Rita Easton, four times winner of the title, at the thirty-seventh hole in the final over the Royal Johannesburg course. Miss Masters played brilliant golf over the first half, when she was 7 up after 18 holes, but Mrs Easton staged a recovery and was only 2 down to start the final nine.
Mrs Easton won the thirty-fifth to take the lead for the first time and went to the thirty-sixth dormie one.
But Miss Masters was not finished and, with a brilliant birdie 4, won the hole to save the match.
Both were on the thirty-seventh green in 3. Mrs Easton short-putted, but Miss Masters lipped the cup, the ball sitting on the edge. Mrs Easton missed her second putt, and Miss Masters was home.
