KENNEL CLUB HOLDS MID-YEAR SHOW

Higher placings for best dog in the Canterbury Kennel Club’s mid-year show on Saturday were so close that the judge (Mrs C. M. Cooper) had much difficulty in making her decision, which gave the honour to a smooth fox terrier owned by Mr and Mrs R. N. Elliott. The dog, Tynedale Try Again, was in perfect condition and showed to perfection, she said. Some 150 dogs were exhibited and standards were on the level of past shows. Smooth fox terriers and pugs were very good, Mrs Cooper said. Cocker spaniels and dachshunds showed well, their judge (Mrs J. C. M. Wiffin) considered.

A dog which Mrs Wiffin thought should do well at shows was the winner of the junior stakes. It was a blue roan cocker spaniel owned by Mr M. Irwin of Dunedin.

Another very good dog in Miss Wiffin’s opinion was the dachshund owned by Mr J. Berland which was runner-up for the best dog in the show award.

Because of wet weather, judging could not be held in the outside ring at Addington. All classes were shown in the dog show building instead. A Great Dane entered by S. G. Isherwood was judged the best non-sporting dog. Honours for best toy dog or bitch went to Mrs G. K. Hale’s Pekinese, Ko-Lin-Yutang of Montresor. .

The best puppy at the show was Mrs D. C. Miller’s Coldstream Lady of York, a Dalmatian bitch. Results:—
