COLOMBO PLAN POST

New Zealander’s Appointment (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 2. A New Zealander has been appointed director of the Colombo Plan Bureau for technical cooperation in Colombo. He is Mr R. H. Wade, of the Department of External Affairs, who at present is First Secretary at the office of the New Zealand High Commissioner in Ottawa. In announcing Mr Wade’s appointment, the Minister of External Affairs (Mr T. L. Macdonald) said the bureau was responsible for the day-to-day management of the technical co-oper-ation scheme and for advising the Council for Technical Co-opera-tion on ways in which the scheme could be made more effective. Mr Macdonald said Mr Wade had been appointed by the council on the nomination of New Zealand. The present director of the bureau is Dr. Nathan Keyfitz, of Canada. Mr Wade is expected to take up his new position within the next few weeks. He will be replaced in Ottawa by Mr R. Q. Quentin-Baxter, of the Department of External Affairs.
