SMALL CARPET SWEEPER
[By VICTORIA CHAPPELLE] The modern craze for compact furniture may be because rooms are smaller than they used to be and that household help is difficult to obtain. One of the newest carpet sweepers is so small that it is sold in a compact package measuring only lOin by 7in, and can be carried home in a shopping bag. The spiral brush is Bin long, and gives 26 square inches of brushing surface. The growing popularity of this sweeper overseas, as well as in Britain, is probably because it is inexpensive and also because of its efficiency and easy manoeuvrability. It can be pushed easily round, and under, furniture, and the brush can be quickly altered for thick or flat pile carpets merely by moving the handle over to the opposite side—the base is marked "high” and "low,” to guide the user. Even the handle is in three parts, and when assembled the sweeper stands only 3ft.
The firm responsible for the sweeper say that motorists have found an additional use for it because it can clean fixed mats, even in a small car, without difficulty.
