The Soviet role in world politics would be among the main topics of the council meeting, the Secre-tary-General (Lord Ismay) said at a press conference today. The agenda for the meeting of the Foreign Ministers included items on the satellite countries in Europe, on the Middle East, and on the disarmament talks now taking place in the United Nations Disarmament Sub-commit-tee in London. Lord Ismay said. The agenda also included the question of German reunification which, he added, was a “matter of crucial importance to the alliance.” Lord Ismay also told reporters that, in addition to foreign policy questions, the Foreign Ministers would survey the steps taken so far to implement the report on non-military co-operation which is to be made by the “three wise men” (Mr Lester Pearson, the Canadian External Affairs Minister, Mr Halvaard Lange, the Norwegian Foreign Minister; and Mr Gaetano Martino, the Italian Foreign Minister). This report, he said in a prepared statement, was approved by the council last December, and it was now a question of seeing what further steps remained to be taken In reply to a question. Lord Ismay said that no military advisers would attend the May session of the council. Lord Ismay said that his offer to mediate in the Cyprus dispute was still open. “I am ready at any time the Governments concerned agree to accept my offer, although, so far, I have not had this agreement.” he said.
