FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT

Situation: A ridge of high pressure persists over northern New Zealand. A depression south of Tasmania is moving south-south-eastwards and the associated cold front is expected to move on to the south-west of the SouthIsland this morning. Forecast:—

Westland and Buller: Moderate to fresh winds from a northerly quarter; cloudy and mild, with occasional showers developing this morning, but more general rain developing from the south later in the day. Outlook: occasional showers.

Nelson: Westerly winds, fresh outside Tasman Bay, otherwise light or moderate variable winds; showers about the western ranges, otherwise fair and mild. Outlook: some rain at first, becoming mainly fair. Marlborough, except the Kaikoura coast: Fresh northwesterlies, becoming strong in exposed areas; fair to cloudy; mild weather; but showers developing late in the day. Outlook: showery early, becoming fair.

Kaikoura coast and Canterbury: Moderate to fresh winds from a northerly quarter; showers in the alps, otherwise mainly fair; mild weather, but a few showers in South Canterbury late tonight. Outlook: a few showers at first, becoming fair.
