Effect Of Closing Of Canal
(N.Z. Press AssociationConyriahtl WASHINGTON, April 30. The closing of the Suez Canal cost the United States Navy 8.000,000 dollars in extra fuel transportation charges. This information Was included in testimony given earlier this month by Rear-Admiral R. J. Arnold to a House of Representatives sub-committee. Admiral Arnold said that the cost resulted from having to transport oil from the United States to the Mediterranean because Middle East oil was not available, from having to concentrate aviation fuels at certain depots because of a tanker shortage, and from extra charges to the Navy by the Military "Sea Transportation Service.
