TIME TRIAL AT ADDINGTON
Au Fait’s Attempt At Mile- Record
The Johnny Globe—Dauphine filly, Au Fait, is to make an attempt on Royal Mile’s "mile record of 2min 16 l-ssec for a two-year-old trotter at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s winter meeting at Addington on Saturday, May 25. Arrangements for the trial were made at a meeting of the club’s committee
Royal Mile’s record should be broken by a substantial margin if conditions are favourable. Royal Mile established his time’ in July, 1954, when conditions were not favourable.
Au Fait, which is trained by D. G. Nyhan, for Mr J. McKay, had two starts earlier in the season as a pacer. She was tried at the trotting gait early last month, and proved a natural trotter. She was worked at Addington before the second day of the recent Easter meeting, and she trotted one mile and a half in the outstanding time of 3min 23sec. She lost a toe-weight in the straight or her time would have been better. She trotted a middle mile in 2mln 13sec. At no stage of her trial was she asked for an effort, and she trotted very easily throughout. Au Fait had had little experience at the trotting gait when she recorded that trial, and it can be taken for granted that she will improve considerably before May 25. If conditions are favourable, it is expected she will record about 2min 10 sec for her mile.
