A Coin from the Fountain.—ltalian police chasing a 17-year-old boy called firemen with ladders to scale the 30ft statue of Neptune, standing in the historic Trevi Fountain, when he scrambled to the top out of their grasp. Police gave chase when they saw the boy reach into the clear water of “Three Coins in the Fountain’’ fame and bring up a gold com. tossed there by a visitor in the time-honoured tradition that this ensures a return to Rome. But according to a by-law, all coins thrown into the fountain become the property of the city authorities.—Rome (Reuter).
