Sir,—“Pro Bono Publico” is not
alone in his anrtazement. Perhaps the Federated Farmers have forgotten that practice is better than precept. If they have not done so their attitude towards use of their own rail services and carriers bound by railways restrictions legislation is difficifit to reconcile with the reported statements of Federated Farmers meetings. No section of the com munity receives, greater benefit from the railways system than the primary producer, and, generally, no section is readier in practice to by-pass rail services at its own mere convenience. Neither rail nor road service can operate efficiently and economically when farmers elect to carry the more profitable freight and leave the more arduous work and lower rated commodities to rail and carrier"—Yours, etc., CIVIS.
