GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL
Alteration Plans Adopted
Plans for the building alterations scheme for Christchurch Girls’ High School had been adopted by the Education Department. the Christchurch Post-pri-mary Schools’ Council was advised at its meeting this week. The department aporoved the preparation of detailed plans and recommended that the council’s architect be instructed to proceed with working drawings. The alterations involve the conversion of classrooms, improvements to the staff room, and to fire precaution facilities. The department’s letter added that the work would not necessarily be completed in the current fiscal year.
After discussing plans for the new Riccarton High School, the council decided to advise the Education Department thdt the proposed design for a common locket room, with no division between the boys’ and girls’ lockers, was not acceptable to the council. “They have even advised the Ministry of Works to go ahead with this plan.” said the chairman (Mr J. W. Cartwright).
The council agreed that although the plan was superior to an earlier one shown to the council, it still did not provide for adequate privacy. It was decided to ask the Ministry of Works to produce a more suitable design. The chairman (Mr Cartwright) and the deputy-chairman (Mr K. A. Gough) were re-elected.
