PLEDGES FOR LABOUR
General Election In November
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 1.
Representatives of 218.817 New Zealand workers today pledged themselves to work for a political victory for the Labour Party at the General Election in November. A resolution to this effect was adopted unanimously by the federation of Labour annual conference.
A report adopted by the conference said both the workers and the country in general would benefit if the present “big business” Government was replaced by a Labour administration.
Another unanimous resolution—moved by the president of the United Mine Workers’ Union. Mr A. V. Prendeville—urged all officials of the federation to endeavour to return a Labour Government and “give full financial support to the Labour Party with that end in view.”
The secretary of the Associated Society of Railway Servants, Mr W. T. Johnansen, said the 55 branches of his union had already dipped into their pockets for the Labour cause in the November elections. “But it is no good puting our hands in our pockets and 'hen sitting back,” he said. “The association, as always, will play its part in returning a Labour Government.”
