SHIRLEY BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL
Early Establishment Of Board Urged
The Shirley Boys’ High School interim board of governors decided to urge the Education Department to set up an official board of governors for the school immediately. The interim board, which comprises the Christchurch Postprimary Schools’ Council with the headmaster (Mr C. V. Gallagher), in attendance will suggest that there be seven members on the school’s board who would have power to co-opt two more members after a year. The two additional members would come from the parent-teacher association and would later be replaced by representatives of a future old boys’ association. It was decided to suggest that the board be elected for three years. Swimming Bath Mr Gallagher was asked to report to a later meeting on the developments on a site for the school bath. The headmaster said there was only one suitable site because of the drainage problem. The site was near pine trees bordering a drain on the Shirley Intermediate School boundary.
