Carnation Society Show Dates

“The annual carnation show held by the South Island Carnation Society last December 28 and 29 has shown that it is unwise to expect public support between Christmas and New Year,” said the president (Mr J. B. Kearton) in his report to the annual meeting. The show itself left little to be desired, he said. Entries were well up to previous years and generally the blooms shown drew enthusiastic comment from judges and public.

However, because of the difficulties arising from holding the show during the holiday period it was decided to hold the next show on January 9 and 10. . Officers elected at the annual meeting were:—Patron, Mrs Brett Wood; president, Mr J. B. Kearton; vice-president. Mr W. D. Carpinter; secretary, Mr R. Lester: treasurer, Mr W. G. Lester; committee, Mesdames L. Greenaway, M. Carpinter, Messrs W. B Olorenshaw, J. H. Johnson, E. Margetts, E. Edwards, C. Hayward, H. P. Archbold, T. Ramsay, W. E. Barnes, and R. Stuart; auditor, Mr S. M. Duff.
