Children’s Court WINDOWS WORTH £l86 BROKEN BY TWO BOYS

Two boys, aged 13 and 14, were committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare when they appeared in the Children s Court in March on 14 charges of wilfully damaging windows m Christchurch. Restitution of £lB6 6s was ordered to be made by each boy from future earnings. Other cases dealt with during March by Mr Raymond Ferner, S. and his .Court associates, Mrs T. Green and Mr W. C. Colee, were:— A boy, aged 14 years, charged with the theft of clothing, was admonished and discharged. For the theft of a motor-cycle seat a 16-year-old youth was placed under the supervision of a Child Welfare Officer for one year. A girl, aged 14, charged with the theft of two cycles and articles of clothing, was placed under the supervision of a Child Welfare Officer for two years.

Charged with theft from a dwelling house, a 14-year-old girl was committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare. A 10-year-old boy, charged with theft from a departmental store, was admonished and discharged. For stealing money from milk bottles a 14-year-old boy and his 15-year-old companion were placed under supervision for a year and ordered to make restitution. A 15-year-old girl, charged with the theft of a wallet and contents was committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare. Restitution was ordered. The theft of a cycle by a 17-year-old girl resulted in her being placed under the supervision of a Child Welfare Officer for one year. A boy, aged 15 years, charged with obscene exposure, was admonished and discharged. Housebreakers A 15-year-old boy and two companions appeared before the Court on charges of housebreaking, theft and false pretences. Two of the youths, both previous offenders, were committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare. The third boy was admonished and discharged. Restitution amounting to £l7 15s 6d was ordered.

On two charges of obscene exposure a 16-year-old youth was placed under the supervision of a

Child Welfare Officer for 12 months. On a charge of breaking, entering and theft a 16-year-old youth was placed under supervision for one year, ordered to make restitution of £3 9s, and directed to receive medical and psychiatric treatment. A 16-year-old youth, charged with theft as a servant, was placed under supervision for one year. Conversion Four boys appeared before the Court charged with converting a power cycle and other offences. Two of the boys, aged 13 and niner years, were committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfarb. One of their companions, aged 13 years, was placed under supervision for one year and ordered to make restitution, the other, aged 14 years, was admonished and discharged. Two boys, aged 14 years, were charged with receiving stolen money. One was admonished and discharged while his companion was placed under supervision for a period of two years. Restitution was ordered.

A youth, aged 15 years, who admitted the theft of a rifle, and his 16-year-old companion, who was charged with receiving the stolen firearm, were each fined £5. Two girls, aged 15 years, one appearing on a charge of theft, and the other on a complaint that she was delinquent, were committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare.

Charged with the theft of a rifle a 16-year-old boy was fined £5. One youth, aged 15, years, charged with riding a motor-cycle without L plates, muffler and warrant of fitness and with supplying false particulars to a traffic officer, was placed under the supervision of a Child Welfare Officer for one year. A second youth, aged 16 years, was admonished and discharged when he admitted failing to keep to the left.
