20 SOUTHERN PLAYERS
Some Notable Absentees
The South Island will supply 20—one-third of the players—for the final All Black trials at Wellington on Saturday. The other 40 players, plus reserves, are from the North Island. Notable absentees in the team are J. B. Buxton (Otago), R. M. Smith (Canterbury), and E. Hern (Canterbury). S. G. Bremner, who has not been included in the teams, broke the small finger of his right hand in the trial match in Christchurch on Tuesday, and undoubtedly the selectors have taken this into account. Although S. F. Hill (Canterbury) was chosen he will be unable to play- He suffered an ankle injury in the trial match and is on crutches. South Island representation, therefore, is in effect, reduced to 19.
The form of A. E. G. Elsom (Canterbury), T. Edgerton (West Coast), and J. Anderson (Otago) in the trial game suggested that these players are somewhat fortunate in being included in the final trial teams. It is possibly significant that these three have been included in the B teams which are to play the early game.
Two of the reserves of last Tuesday—S. K. Henderson (Canterbury) and E. S. Diack (Otago)— will also have a chance to show their worth on Saturday.
