Combined Contest Proposed A combined butterfat and milk contest should be held, a recent general meeting of the Midland Canterbury Jersey Cattle Club decided. The recommendation was sent to the new committee. Other recommendations were that the butterfat test for a 1000 gallon cow should be 4.5 instead of 4.75, and that the club should hold a special meeting during the year for general discussion for young breeders. The annual butterfat competition was won by Mr D. H. Jones’s Rongomai Nola, which produced 7881 b of fat in 305 days as a six-year-old cow. Mr J. T. Prosser’s Rosendale Joy bell, an eight-year-old cow, which produced 5931 b fat in 305 days was second, and his Rosendale Pieritte, eight years old, was third with 5831 b fat in 285 days. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £6O 10s 9d for the year.
Officers elected were: president, Mr C. E. Rossiter; vice-president, Mr E. L. Crosland; committee. Messrs L. D. Adams, T. C. Carter, L. P. Hawke, R. H. Hill, and H. J. Hurford; secretary, Mr M. Duncan Jones; auditor, Mr J. R. White. Messrs E. L. Crosland and L. D. Adams were elected delegates to the Combined Breeders’ Association and Messrs R. E. C Rossiter and E. L. Crosland delegates to the South Island Fed-, eration of Jersey Cattle Clubs.
Amberley Premises Entered.— The premises of Macdonald Brothers, Ltd., Main North road, Amberley, were broken into on Monday night and a radio, valued at £5, and some tools were stolen. The depot of Service Transport and Agency, Ltd., at Amberley, was also entered, but only two bottles of lemonade and a Jib packet of biscuits were stolen.
