266 IMMIGRANTS FOR SOUTH
Party From Captain Cook ] Of the 266 immigrants who came ! to. Lyttelton in the steamer express yesterday after arriving at Wellington from Glasgow in the Captain Cook on Monday, 105 remained in Christchurch. Seventeen went to the West Coast, and the rest went to places south of Christchurch. Among the immigrants were five Danish single men. “They are exceptionally fine boys,” said the district immigration officer in Christchurch (Mr R. H. Bell) yesterday. Most of those who came to Christchurch went to accommodation offered by their nominators. Seventeen single men stayed at the hostel at Lyttelton; two married couples and six single women went to the immigration hostel in Hansons lane. Although there was an outbreak of measles among children on the Captain Cook, there were no cases among the southern party A woman who was taken ashore sick at Wellington has been reported to be progressing quite satisfactorily, and is expected to come to the South Island in a few days.
